Introduction: A Dream Turned Divine Reality
In May 2025, Ember Holidays marked a historic milestone – successfully organizing the first Indian group pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar Yatra for the season. What made this journey extraordinary wasn’t just the majestic Himalayas or the spiritual magnetism of Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar—it was the emotional bond, flawless coordination, and the unshakable faith that transformed this yatra into a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Pilgrims from across India gathered in Lucknow, driven by devotion and a dream—to witness the abode of Lord Shiva. With Ember Holidays’ experienced hands at the helm, every logistic, every moment, and every heartbeat of the journey was carefully curated.
Day 01: Arrival in Lucknow – The Spiritual Prelude Begins
As our group of 35 Indian pilgrims arrived in Lucknow, there was a sense of excitement and sacred anticipation. Representatives from Ember Holidays welcomed each devotee with garlands and travel kits containing essentials for high-altitude travel—jackets, caps, gloves, dry fruits, and safety guidelines.
That evening, we conducted a group briefing and orientation session at the hotel. Our tour leader explained the entire itinerary, helicopter schedules, health and safety measures, and spiritual protocols to be followed throughout the yatra.
“This is not just a journey. This is an inner awakening,” said Mr. Rajan Gurung, the Group Leader from Ember Holidays.
Day 02: Lucknow to Nepalgunj – The Borders of Devotion
After breakfast, we departed by luxury bus for Nepalgunj—the gateway to the Kailash Yatra. The 180 km drive took around 5–6 hours with scenic countryside views.
Upon arrival in Nepalgunj, we were welcomed by the Ember Nepal team. Rooms were pre-assigned, passports collected for visa formalities, and our health was rechecked by local medics.
The evening was filled with bhajans, satsang, and introductions. From elderly couples to solo women travelers, this group represented every shade of Indian devotion. Every story was unique, every prayer heartfelt.
Day 03: Nepalgunj to Simikot – Entering the Himalayan Realm
Early morning, we boarded a chartered flight from Nepalgunj to Simikot (2910m)—a remote mountain village and base point for the heli journey. The 45-minute flight offered stunning Himalayan views.
Simikot welcomed us with cold winds, fluttering prayer flags, and the tranquil presence of snow-capped peaks. After checking in to basic yet comfortable guesthouses, the day was kept for acclimatization and spiritual rest.
The team organized a group meditation session, encouraging everyone to embrace the altitude slowly.
“Only those who surrender to the mountain will receive its blessing,” whispered an elderly yogi from Varanasi.
Day 04: Simikot to Hilsa by Helicopter, Drive to Taklakot – Touching Tibet
One of the most thrilling parts of the trip began this day. Early in the morning, Ember’s logistics team managed group-wise helicopter shuttles from Simikot to Hilsa (Nepal-Tibet border) via a 20-minute flight.
From Hilsa, we crossed the bridge over the Karnali River and entered Tibet (China). The transformation was immediate—landscape, language, and energy shifted. After Chinese immigration clearance, we boarded our Tibetan luxury bus and drove to Taklakot (Burang).
At 3900m altitude, Taklakot offered oxygen rooms and comfortable accommodation. Oxygen cylinders and portable bottles were distributed to those who needed extra support.
Day 05: Acclimatization in Taklakot – Rest and Spiritual Preparation
Staying an extra day in Taklakot is critical for high-altitude adaptation. The day was kept for rest and inner reflection. Guided group puja and havan were conducted under the open sky, with chants of “Om Namah Shivaya” echoing in the barren mountains.
Our medical team conducted daily check-ups and ensured that everyone maintained hydration, diet, and oxygen levels. The Ember team’s daily briefings kept the group well-informed and mentally prepared for the upcoming journey to Mansarovar.
Day 06: Taklakot to Mansarovar – The First Darshan
And then came the most emotional and anticipated moment of the yatra.
We drove from Taklakot to Lake Mansarovar (4560m), one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world and a sacred source of spiritual purification. The vast, turquoise expanse with Mount Kailash standing tall in the background—it was overwhelming. Tears flowed, chants intensified, and hearts opened.
We took a holy dip in the icy waters, performed puja, and meditated by the shores. For many, it felt like the past karma of lifetimes had been washed away in that moment.
At night, we stayed in guesthouses near the lake, staring at the silhouette of Kailash under the starlit sky.
Day 07: Mansarovar to Darchen – Close to the Divine
After the sunrise puja at Mansarovar, we drove to Darchen (4670m)—the base point of the Kailash Parikrama. While some elderly members opted to stay at Mansarovar or Darchen due to altitude concerns, the younger pilgrims prepared for the optional trek around Kailash.
Even for those not doing the parikrama, standing close to the divine mountain was an achievement of faith. We ended the day with a peaceful satsang and thanksgiving ceremony.
Optional Day 08–10 (Parikrama): Circumambulating Mount Kailash
Though not mandatory, about 12 members of the group continued with the 3-day parikrama of Mount Kailash (total ~52 km) by foot and pony.
- Day 1: Darchen to Dirapuk (18 km) – facing the north face of Kailash.
- Day 2: Dirapuk to Zuthulpuk via Dolma La Pass (5630m) – the most challenging yet rewarding day.
- Day 3: Zuthulpuk to Darchen – the final leg of the kora.
Every step of the parikrama was soaked in prayer and pain, tears and triumph. It was not just a physical trek—it was a journey into one’s own soul.
Day 08: Return to Taklakot and Hilsa – With Kailash in Our Hearts
For those not doing the parikrama, this day marked the return journey from Darchen to Taklakot and back to Hilsa by bus and then helicopter.
Crossing the border again, we felt lighter—not just physically, but spiritually. Something deep inside had shifted. There was peace in our eyes, a glow in our skin, and silence in our smiles.
The Ember team ensured smooth border crossing, coordinated immigration, and arranged hot meals, medics, and rest breaks. They were more than just organizers—they were caretakers of our faith.
Day 09: Hilsa to Simikot to Nepalgunj to Lucknow – Homeward with Blessings
On this final day, we retraced our journey:
- Helicopter from Hilsa to Simikot
- Flight from Simikot to Nepalgunj
- Overland drive from Nepalgunj to Lucknow
By the time we reached Lucknow, we had become a family. Pilgrims hugged each other, exchanged phone numbers, and shared vows to meet again for another spiritual journey.
A farewell dinner was organized by Ember Holidays at the hotel in Lucknow with certificates, group photos, and blessings.

Conclusion: Kailash Is Not the End, But the Beginning
